DOMOFERM's recommendation
Whether it's a wellness area, health center, bathroom, kitchen or technical room, every building has areas with a damp or wet interior climate. Since these rooms place special demands on every door, Domoferm has the optimal solution for them: door leaves from the PRESTIGE and PREMIUM Ux6xx door lines with PRISMA or Stainless surfaces certified according to EN 16580.
What are damp and wet rooms?
Damp and wet room doors are used wherever there is either high humidity or direct splashing water. But what are the differences?
A room is said to be damp when surfaces are exposed to moisture for a short period of time, such as high humidity or direct splashing water. In wet rooms, on the other hand, long-term exposure to moisture and frequent splashing water is to be expected.
In both cases, it is advisable to seal all joints between the frame and the masonry and the floor with a permanently elastic seal. The entire door element must also be equipped with appropriate corrosion-protected fittings.
Safely protected
DOMOFERM damp and wet room doors guarantee tested quality for special areas of use. Whether in the swimming pool or sauna, in the bathroom or kitchen, but also in doctor's offices or laboratories: doors in damp and wet rooms are exposed to higher temperatures and greater humidity every day. And where increased exposure to moisture and humidity is to be expected, doors must meet special criteria.
Assessment criteria:
- Thickness swelling of the door leaf due to water absorption at defined measuring points
- Check for visible damage to the cover layer, vertical and horizontal sash frame parts
- Inspection of building fittings for visible corrosion
- Deformations according to EN 12219 (differential climate behavior).
How are damp room door leaves tested:
- 48 test cycles
- 0.5 minute spray phase
- 29.5 minutes drying phase
- 20°C water temperature
- Showering up to 500 mm from the bottom edge of the door leaf.
How are wet room door leaves tested:
- 96 test cycles
- 4 minutes spray phase
- 26 minutes drying phase
- 30°C water temperature
- Showering up to 1500 mm from the bottom edge of the door leaf.
The European standard DIN EN 16580 specifies the necessary performance properties that apply to door leaves, regardless of the material, that are exposed to moisture and frequent splashes of water for long periods of time. However, this standard does not apply to door leaves that are exposed to liquids with a pH value below 5.5 or above 8.5. Furthermore, it does not apply to door frames, complete doors or door elements.
DOMOFERM protects against moisture and splash water
Door leaves from the PRESTIGE UT6xx and PREMIUM Ux6xx door lines with the powder-coated Prisma® surface or in the full stainless steel version Stainless are certified according to EN 16580. This makes them perfect for rooms in which the humidity can increase briefly or in which splash water is possible.
DOMOFERM's recommendation:
- Use stainless steel fittings and stainless steel straps.
- Have the frames backfilled with mortar.
- Avoid light openings or at least adapt them to the respective situation or base height.
In order to ensure that all criteria are met, it is important that damp and wet rooms are defined during the planning phase. This is also where the requirements for wet or damp room protection should be determined. This information must be available in the tender at the latest.
